Where Exactly Is Coron?

Coron is located in the Palawan Province in the far west of the Philippines and is part of the Calamian Islands. Specifically, Coron is a municipality on Busuanga Island, the largest island in the archipelago. The Coron town is not to be confused with Coron Island; Coron Island being a popular destination for day trips and houses many of the top sights, including, The Twin Lagoons, Kayangan Lake and Barracuda Lake. Coron Town is the main hub where most travelers stay and from here you can explore all the region as to offer.

The region is famous for its underwater attractions, including magnificent shipwrecks that attract divers worldwide. With its beautiful landscapes, unique attractions and a variety of activities, Coron stands out as one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines.

How To Get To Coron Town

The Most direct way to get to Coron is to fly into Busuanga Airport (USU). To note, this is also sometimes called Coron Airport but it is the same place! To be sure, the airport code is USU. There are direct flights from Manila and Cebu. You can check out the prices for travelling directly to Busuanga Airport with Skyscanner below, just type in your airport choice and your preferred dates:

From Busuanga airport it is a short 45 minute van ride to Coron Town where you will most likely want to stay. For as little as £5 you can book a shared van taxi to Coron Town from the airport. Below is a link to book your transfer with 12GO:

Alternatively, you can chose to head to Coron after exploring some of the more southern areas in Palawan. Including, Puerto Princesa, Port Barton and El Nido. You can of course start your route in Coron and work your way South to the areas above. This way at the end of your Palawan trip you can fly out of Puerto Princesa Airport.

Ditaytayan Island is a hidden gem in the Philippines, known for its stunning sandbar that stretches out into turquoise waters, creating a picture-perfect paradise. It’s best to plan your visit on a calm day, as the seas can get choppy in windy weather. However, as it is pretty far off the beaten path, the island is much less crowded. Malcapuya Island

One unique feature of this island is a small basketball court right on the beach! Beth took the opportunity to play on the beach with the locals for over half an hour. It was an awesome experience, and we highly recommend jumping in and hooping on your visit if you are so inclined.

Malcapuya Island Basketball Court

Similar to other remote islands in the area, getting to Malcapuya Island by boat is quite a long journey from Coron town, typically taking 1.5 to 2 hours. Plan ahead and try to visit on a calm day to ensure a smoother boat ride, however the journey is definitely worth it!
